School holidays started nearly 2 weeks ago and aint I glad I've survived taking care of the kids single-handedly. With 3 kids in tow 24/7, I need to keep them occupied while I prepare meals and do my household chores. With a "dead" weighing scale, I've not been baking much lately and most of my flours have/are near expiry. Instead of throwing them away, I turned them into colourful doughs and the kids spent almost 2 hours playing with them. So if you've got little fingers at home, do give this a try.
Made 4 coloured doughs and left 1 plain.
DD3 trying her hands on the dough. This activity is great for hands-eyes coordination ;-)
Can you guess what they made?

My monkeys are going to be out of school in one week and I made a list of 'arts and crafts' I want to do with them- making play dough is on the list- I especially like your colors-
Tortoise, Car, face, dinosaur, pizza, other things cannot see leh
Hi,
Cld u share how u make the dough from flour? thks :)
Great idea for expired flour! I usually throw them away. Thanks for the idea. Now my grandsons will have 'play doh' to play with.
I LOVE this idea! So clever! You just mixed it with water?
Brilliant idea!! Thanks for kind sharing.
may i check what's the measurement for flour and water that you use to make this?
Great playtime! A car, tortoise, pizza and a smiling face? I caught some kids playing with clay and it's on my post. Do check it out.
Lady Ren, this is the only time I use loads of colourings in my dough. I never like artificial colourings in food I eat.
Wendy, you've got them all correct! My son told me the face is actually Donald Duck.
Busygran, I hope your grandsons will enjoy the dough as much as my kids.
Sonia, I hope your kids will enjoy playing with them.
CheezyHeart, Clare & mommy of 3,
I didn't take any measurements whenever I make them. I just add some salt to a mixing bowl, add water and colourings, then add flour and mix. If dough is too dry, add more water. If it's too wet, add more flour.
Keats The Sunshine Girl,
I've checked out your blog, the kids sure looked like they enjoyed themselves. I love outdoor activities!
The "smiling face" is actually Donald Duck ;-)
One more tips for you on expired flour -
Use the flour with some water to wash the oily dishes, like pots and pans, wok, mixing bowls stained with creamy butter left behind after preparing bakery. Very effective!
